Other potential side effects include: Cardiovascular: bradycardia, heart failure, cold and cyanotic extremities, hypotension, heart block, a slowed AV conduction or increase of an existing AV-block, Raynaud's phenomenon, paresthesia of the extremities, increase of an existing intermittent claudication, impotence.Digestive: epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.CNS: dizziness, disorientation, vertigo, paraesthesiae, headache, hallucinations, nightmares, insomnia, somnolence, depression, sleep disturbances, psychoses, confusion.Respiratory: dyspnoea, broncho-spasm in patients with bronchial asthma or a history of asthmatic complaints.Special senses: visual disturbance, dry eyes.Retroperitoneal fibrosis, allergic skin reactions including erythematous or psoriaform rashes and arthralgia have been rarely reported. An increase in anti-nuclear antibodies has been seen with beta blocking agents; its clinical relevance is not clear.Warning: There have been reports of skin rashes and/or dry eyes associated with the use of beta-adrenergic blocking drugs. The reported incidence is rare and in most cases the symptoms have cleared when treatment was withdrawn. Discontinuance of the drug should be considered if any such reaction is not otherwise explicable. Cessation of therapy with the beta blocker should be gradual although withdrawal symptoms with timolol are infrequent. | |
