| The electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC) provides electronic Summaries of Product
Characteristics (SPCs) and Patient Information Leaflets (PILs). It provides information on thousands of licensed medicines available in the UK. The eMC is continuously updated with new and revised SPC and PIL information which, after approval by the licensing authorities, is submitted directly by pharmaceutical companies. |
There are three ways to search for information on the eMC.
Quick Search, in the top right hand corner, is the quickest and easiest way to find information if you have:
Type in all or part of the medicine or company name in the Quick search box. Then press 'Go'.
The eMC will search the product, generic and company information for the term you typed in. You will then see a list of all the matches that have been found. Click on the links to expand the lists or to view information on your chosen medicine.
Text Search allows you to search each SPC (and PIL) for a specific word or phrase.
Search by Section allows you to search for a specific word or phrase in an individual section of an SPC (but not PIL).
The recently launched X-PIL web site has been developed to make patient information leaflets (PILs) accessible to the visually impaired.
On the X-PIL website PILs are available in large text and in a format that can be used by a screen reader.
By the end of April 2007 all the PILs on the eMC will be available on the X-PIL web site in their new formats.
The X-PIL web site may be found at xpil.medicines.org.uk
